Position Description

OUR BOARD’S REQUIREMENTS

Our new Trustees will have diverse skillsets and experience. Currently, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates with expertise in finance or accountancy, human resources and people management, income generation, commercial fundraising, marketing, social media and communications, as well as those with lived experience of the services we supply or issues we address.

Prior board-level experience is not essential. A Role Description will be supplied on application. New Trustees will be inducted.

ELIGIBILITY

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to serve as Board Member/Trustee of a charity.

You must not:

  • Have an unspent conviction for an offence involving dishonesty or deception.
  • Be declared bankrupt or be subject to bankruptcy restrictions.
  • Have an individual voluntary arrangement (IVA) with a creditor.
  • Be disqualified or barred from acting as a trustee under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006.
  • Have been removed or disqualified as a company director or charity trustee because of wrongdoing.

REMUNERATION
Unpaid; but expenses consistent with the Charity’s Trustee Expenses Policy will be reimbursed.

TIME COMMITMENT
Involve Northwest’s Board meets in person and online regularly throughout the year; active participation and preparation are essential. In person meetings are Wirral based.

In practice the time commitment is usually:

  • Attending at least four in person Board meetings per year of circa 3 hours each, plus advance reading papers and preparation.
  • An annual Away Day which incorporates the Charity’s AGM – estimated 6 hours plus advance reading papers and preparation.
  • Leading a working group on a particular area (for example safeguarding, finance, EDI,
    fundraising/communications). This is subject to the Board’s needs and your interests.
  • Participating in occasional additional meetings (for example recruitment panels or where immediate decisions are required). These may be in person or online and are largely subject to individual Trustee’s availability.

TERM LENGTH

  • Initial term: 3 years.
  • Reappointment: re-election is possible.
  • Process: Appointment and reappointment of Trustees is set out in the Charity’s Articles of Association.
  • Be disqualified or barred from acting as a trustee under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Trustees are collectively accountable as the Charity’s governing body (led by the Chair and working with the Senior Management Team) to ensure effective financial and operational oversight, delivery on the Charity’s objectives and strategic forward planning.
