This Quick Course covers Finance Essentials for non-executive directors who are *not* finance professionals in a one-hour on-demand lesson.

Managing the finances of the organisation is one of the board’s core duties. Make sure you understand what you need to know to operate effectively as a board member.

Whilst you don’t need to be an accountant or financial expert to be a non-executive, an overall understanding of your responsibilities and the risks around finance is essential.

This Quick Course will take you through the basics of financial management from a board perspective, situating it as part of your wider directors’ duties and explaining key concepts. A high-level overview, it is relevant to the corporate, public and charity sectors.

This one hour Quick Course covers:

  • A board’s role in financial management,
  • Financial and fraud risk;
  • Annual report and accounts;
  • Balance sheet, Profit & Loss account and cash flow statements;
  • Directors’ responsibilities, ESG and the board’s wider duties;
  • Reporting standards and independent audit.

It includes a deep-dive into example financial statements, which are available for reference.
