Every team needs both management and leadership to thrive. But what is the difference between these two vital elements? How do you transition from one to another? And what are the opportunities, regardless of your formal role?
This is a key session for anyone new to a leadership role – or who aspires to one in future. It is also a chance for established leaders to reflect and refresh their approach.
Understanding the fundamental elements and behaviours of a leader is key to refining your personal leadership style, and effectiveness. Some perceive ‘leadership’ to simply be managing on a larger scale. Yet this view misunderstands the two functions and how they are mutually interdependent. It also overlooks who can provide both management and leadership, within and outside the formal hierarchy.
We will consider how individuals can employ both management and leadership skills in a particular context and how both have an important role to play. We will reveal how leadership can be contributed by a range of team members, not just the most senior person in the room, but reflect on the difference your position makes to your approach.
In this intensive one-hour talk, Dr Malcolm McGregor will cover:
- definition of leadership vs management;
- the importance of each skill to achieving business outcomes;
- key behaviours of an effective leader;
- leadership across the hierarchy.
This virtual event is free to Full and Directors’ Circle members. It will also include an opportunity for Q&A and sharing experience with other members of our network, under Chatham House rule.
